This product is pretty irreplaceable for obvious reasons. I'll divide my review into 3 sections: things to know before buying, pros, and cons.THINGS TO KNOW:- The 14" still works with smaller laptops; just position the magnets toward the top of the laptop so they grab the bottom of the Trio's built in magnets- Your company may not allow you to install the display's software drives (or there could be compatibility issues). However, I can confirm when using USB-C, these monitors were plug and play on PC (no software needed). I did not test this product with a normal USB connection and the software drivers- If your laptop has a USB-C charger, you can most likely use that port to connect the display, then charge your computer through the display.- If your computer only has one USB-C port and you want to use two monitors, you may need a USB-C power hub (I haven't tested this yet since my personal computer has 2 USB-C ports)PROS- Does not require any extra desk support than a laptop would. If you want to use a narrow standing desk, especially an adjustable portable laptop desk, this is by far your best option- Can rest on semi-flat surfaces like couches and beds because its angle matches the angle of your laptop- Can give you 2 screens and pass through charge if you have a USB-C charging port- Plug & play if you use USB-C. Comes online quickly, I didn't see the issue other users mentioned. I assume they are not using the USB-C ports and it was related to the driver software- Solid screen quality- The casing for the monitors helps stabilize the computer. Positioned correctly, even a laptop with a loose hinge should keep from tipping over backwards- Compact when you slide the monitors together for whenever you need to move it around. Not super heavy either.- Very wide. not ultra wide, but still nice- If you detach one from the back of your computer, you can position them vertically standalone. This can be useful if you need to read contracts, do coding, or anything with a lot of line breaks- Doesn't appear to cause my computers to run slower, heat up significantly, or drain battery ultra-fast. YMMV- Using metal stickies on the back of your laptop is a great. It's so easy to swap this onto all my different laptops personal, work, specific clients, etc. Obviously if you get an older laptop without a USB-C, the drivers could be an issue for you. That's the way things are headed though, so good to future-proof yourself- Easy setup- Slide in casing gives the screens some protection when carrying- Impresses your coworkers, clients, friends, and familyCONS- The screen quality, while solid, doesn't quite match up to the built-in screens I have, even though the HD resolutions are the same. If you want ultra clear graphics, the screen is good, but not fantastic- If you have zero hinge resistance (your computer screen can bend completely backwards) and you want to tilt the screen back far, you may need to put some kind of kickstand on the back to keep the computer screen from falling flat. That wasn't an issue for me, though.- Software drivers for non-USB C computers could be a dealbreaker for you if your organization disallows them or you encounter a technical issue- The screens have a rotation sensor, which I found annoying since I'd prefer for rotation to be set in the display settings.- The menu and brightness buttons on the side of the display are extremely difficult to see, and they don't stand out because they are touch sensor. use a phone flashlight and/or just feel your way around until you can find them- While the front of the screen is protected by casing, the back is unprotected. Be careful when carrying these around, as I doubt they could survive a fall or impact- Obviously be cautious if the screens are pulled out since your entire computer could be knocked over- The clips do an okay job of lining up two screens at once, but it's not 100% perfect. Not a big deal and it keeps them attached and relatively even, but I do wish they designed the clip tracks a little better- No option to swap out for another display- While I think this is a pro, it does not attach so firmly to your computer that you can grab your computer alone and carry the whole set around. make sure you have a firm grip on both whenever you're carrying them around.- you may need to buy your own USB-C hub if you want, which is a bit annoying. I also don't know whether the charge through display feature would work through a hubThat's it. Unless an improved design comes along, just get this. There were far fewer cons than I expected, and there are so many problems with alternatives when you like to travel or even working from home in different rooms. You could work in a room with your kids or significant other instead of holing yourself up at a desk. You could have a 3 screen setup in a studio apartment or college dorm while working on your bed. It's just great.I purchased this product over a year ago, and can't believe how much easier it is to track multiple documents, edit and teach classes now from my Dell 17" laptop. The only challenge I have had with it is, almost doubled the weight of my laptop, and depending on how far back I have the screen tipped, I need to place a support under the corner to keep it from drifting down.I have had no performance issues with the monitor or computer due to the magnets used for mounting the Trio screen. As an author and educator, it is easy to spend 8 hours a day on the computer - if there was any reliability or saftey, I would have found it by now. I plan on upgrading to a blue tooth version with the next laptop purchase.Works well but the magnets don’t hold well and often come off which is kind of annoyingI had a lot of skepticism even when ordering this product and compared to other similar products that are available right now or coming soon (which aren't many).Overall design concept and build: 4 starsOverall concept is actually well thought out. I admit that the plastic backpanel on which magnets are attached to feels a bit flimsy. But it does the job, and argument can be made that it's for reducing weight. Minus one star for the cheap feel. The steel discs and magnets might feel like a joke, but actually it works better than expected for a few reasons. Two Trios weigh as much as a laptop itself, and putting that much weight on the laptop screen housing will either damage the hinges down the road or make the laptop do a backflip. The magnets attach to the discs but they have some wiggle room so that it slides down to the desk surface and puts Trio's weight on the desk instead of the laptop screen. The wiggle room between the magnet and discs actually allows you tilt the laptop backwards more for better viewing angle, and keep the Trio's weight on the desk surface. A lot of similar product's solutions like hanging the portable monitors on the edge of laptop screen puts a lot of weight on the hinge. My bet is that your viewing angle will be very limited, almost 90 degrees upright. Tilt the screen back, and most laptop hinges won't be able to hold up the weight of two extra screens.**I have a windows laptop and attached a thin cut-to-order polycarbonate sheet matching my laptop size, used Velcro fasteners to attach the polycarbonate sheet to behind the laptop screen. The velcro stickers will be much easier to remove down the road than metal discs without getting some scuffs. For Macbook users, I strongly suggest using a hard case.***Connectivity:I wish it had a mini HDMI like other portable monitors. USB-C input is fine, buttery smooth. But using USB-A input makes it laggy, feels like a remote desktop or the Duet app on the iPad (since it uses the same DisplayLink technology over USB A). My laptop only has one USB-C so I have to live with the laggy screen on one side. It's okay for static screens, but lag is noticeable when you play a video, and forget gaming with USB-A connection.Other notes:When you attach two 14 inch Trios to a 15inch laptop, the width of a triple monitor setup is similar to a 43 inch monitor when toed in, and wider when not toed in. You're not going to be able to pull out both at most cafe's or any public space. A single unit should suffice for most users. It's lighter as well. If you do decide to get two Trios, make sure you have two USB C ports or be ready to live with a lag on one of them.I really love this set up. Functionally it being attached to my laptop itself is great - I had a standalone travel monitor and disliked the extra space needed to use it. This makes it a lot easier to travel with and the set up is extremely easy and the quality of image is perfect for daily working tasks. I want to love this so much! BUT it won't stay glued/stuck together. I've had to reinstall/attach two magnets because the stickiness didn't hold. And now the metal plate on the monitor that attaches has become detached and won't hold causing the monitor to be uneven but more so causing me worry it won't stay on. I've used the supplied extra sticky dots for the magnets as well as the metal plate it just doesn't seem to hold.... I'll probably have to superglue the metal plate back onto the monitor. I'm annoyed but going to try to make it work.I have the 14" version and the 4 magnets are not enough to support the weight of the screen when it is open. The screen itself is also very heavy, it actually weighs about the same as my laptop on it's own! The weight does concern me about the potential long term damage to the hinges on my laptop, the screen has to be in an upright position or it will tilt bank under the weight of the screen. The screen itself seems to be of a decent quality. The screen either needs to go on a diet and further magnets are required.Good concept, needs works, price is too high for the quality. This is just personal taste but I prefer a standalone mobile screen to use a secondary monitor. Id only use this if deskspace was a real issue but you can always find a table with more room nowadays.I dont like you cant tilt it up or down, it only swivels left to right, and I dont like having something attached to my laptop, I have an LG Gram 17" which is lightweight so I dont want anything attached to the back.. It interferes with my laptop screen adjustment.Yes, save it.Unless you are not a high experienced user (passive) and admin (active and proper use of a computer), this may then satisfy your needs. As a Ethical Hacking student, I seek for the best in efficiency and productivity while keeping active my mobility, wherever my studies, job and a pen-test takes me to.This is not the solution due to the magnets which aren't really that useful even when seating the screen on the desk as from instructions. For instance, the magnets are fine and are not powerful enough to harm your laptop. They simply don't do their job and the screen may fall down at any time, especially if traveling on a train or typing in car (bumps etc).Furthermore, if you are an experienced admin (not just a user) it is absolutely pointless to invest much money in expensive GPU such as NVIDIA or whatever if then you end up in buying an extension screen such as this one, with a very poor resolution.Save your money and buy a proper screen, such as a Zenscreen from Asus, which will cost 100gbp less than this and will perform 50 times better than this TRIO Max.The idea is good though, they just have to upgrade it.
