We got this as a replacement for our old, broken Delta collar circa 2010. It looks, sets up and performs as required, so that's good. But the collar included in the kit is terrible. It's an extremely long faux lpatent leather buckle co?lar with holes punched every half inch. It's not going to hold up. It will crack at some point, and I hate using a buckle collar because it takes too long to put on our dog when he's just going outside for ten minutes. So I threw out ht terrible cheesy collar and used the Garmin woven collar with the snap-in clasp we were using before.By the way, I spoke to Garmin tech service about getting our old one repaired or traded in, and it was just too old. He also told me that this Garmin XC is no longer being manufactured or sold by Garmin, but that Garmin will consider ones purchased on Amazon to be new, and they will be u nder warranty. This is my 3rd time purchasing this unit. The life span is pretty consistently 4 years. The collar charging can be a little temperamental if it isn’t clean with perfect contact.Great for training your dogI have a very willful, now over 80 lbs puppy and it has helped to make both of us happier and safer. It initially looked complicated to set up, but actually was very easy once I focused my attention. Can’t really speak to the water resistance as it really has been tested very much yet. No issues so far.Less range than the previous version, but not as bad as most competitors. If you want better range the price goes up exponentially.love the productThis my second one, it does depend a lot on the breed of dog you have, but they do work.I did not receive a charging clip with the collar. I wasn't aware it was missing and needed a clip to charge and threw the packaging out. Kind of a bummer.Use it on Jack Russell cross that would bark at everyone/ everything, every noise in back yard. He learned very quickly that he doesn’t like this collar or the shock it gives. Honestly, all we have to do after a few days is grab the collar, put it on and not even use the transmitter because he knows to be quiet. We bought all the friendly vibrating ones and they did nothing after 2-3 days. He couldn’t have cared less about the vibration. Doesn’t like this though and all our lives are better for it.Le manuel est en anglais et difficile de tout comprendre le fonctionnement. We have a 6 month old Border Collie, who developed the habit of only returning to us when he wanted to. His instinct and love of the chase made it impossible to have him off leash. This product was referred to us by the "Dog Father" Obedience trainer. It arrived quickly, then on the trainer's advice we placed the collar on the dog everyday, and carried the remote for 16 long days without using it. This prevented our dog from becoming collar smart. One 1 hour training session to teach us how to set it and use it correctly and problem was solved. Within one day our pup comes back to us instantly with nearly no corrections. We now have the enjoyment and peace of mind knowing our dog will be safe in all situations as he has learned to return to us immediately upon being called. This is an updated version of the Tri-Tronics EXP system from the early 2000s. We actually still have that system, but receiver batteries for that model are no longer available, so we decided to try this latest Garmin version, which also features a smaller collar receiver. Unfortunately, right out of the box the transmitter display was wonky, as seen in the photo. It took a few minutes for it to sort itself. This was at normal room temperature. If this had occurred after a few years, I suppose we could have lived with it. But on the first day of use? No way, not at the vicinity of $250. In addition, the transmitter buttons are small and awkwardly placed. So we decided to return this and instead buy another ET-400 E-Collar (see our review), which is a terrific product, made by a great company. My girlfriend and I bought this with the Garmin 30$ Rebate for our Collie-Shepherd puppy and we couldn't be more pleased with this kit. The collar battery life, the features, and the overall robust design of this system is FAR superior to cheaper knock off kits on amazon. GO Garmin.Depending on the breed, you may only really need the *Tone* button - our Shollie responds to it without question when a little distracted in high tempo/traffic areas like parks and streets. Leveraging this tool as a puppy has been fantastic with basic commands.Don't hesitate and get this thing when Garmin has the rebate on - its worth its weight in gold.
