used this to speed up my 2019 iMac 21.5.factory hard drive is 1Tb mechanical drive with 5400rpm with about 100Mb/s read and write.i upgraded that drive to Samsung 870 SSD where i got about 920Mb/s read and write.and then got this 40Gbs enclosure.installed 1Tb Samsung 970 EVOPlus and am no getting 2500Mb/s Write and 2700Mb/s read.amazing!!Very respectable read/write speeds when tested in TB4 laptop. However, is not recognized using USB 3.2 2x2 ports on Desktop. When tested with USB 3.2 GEN2 ports speeds were mediocre.I bought this to clone SSD's and make backups. It performed fine but it was hard to deal with the small screw and I lost one almost instantly and they are not standard screws so it should have some with spares. There are so many of they devices available and Amazons search function doesn't make them easy to fine or figure out but this one can do the job it's just a pain if your planing on changing SSD's a lot. Looks like it only has the screw to hold the SSD in place. This one does make a fine heat sink and it doesn't look like the other one does so that is a trade off. Oh and don't loose the screw driver that comes with this, also non standardI got the 20Gbps USB3.2 Gen2x2 USB-C version of the enclosure. The specs suggest a speed of 2000 MB / sec.I installed a Samsung 980 PRO NVMe (capable of 5000 MB / sec), and plugged it into the USB4 port of my new Surface Laptop Studio. I tested it with CrystalDiskMark and it was painfully slow, measuring 40 MB / sec. I was in desbelief, but measured several times, and kept getting the results shown in the screenshot.I tested the same NVMe drive again with a much cheaper 10Gbps enclosure, and I got speeds of 1000 MB / sec. Do not waste your money on this Orico brand. I believe it is not compatible with most modern laptops.They should really have a chip such that, if 2x2 mode is not supported, it would at least revert to 10 Gbps, but this does not happen, and the speeds are 0.04 Gbps.I have also purchased another USB 2x2 PCIe expansion card by Orico, and that underperforms and has compatibility issues as well, so I will not by buying anything from this brand again.The enclosure is well made and sturdy. Buy One - You'll love it!!Wonderful M.2 drive with quick speeds, just wish that the logo weren’t on it, because nobody seems to know who Orico is and I get asked often about it being a cheap brand. I have to explain that it’s actually a decent brand, blah, blah, blah!40Gbps is a dream with this tool. Does not come close to "as advertised" speeds. Seems throttled. This has no effect on other well made Oric products.Screw holding on the cover for this was so tight when I tried to unscrew it I immediately started wearing away the portions of the screw for keeping the phillips head on the head of the screw and it is not impossible to open making the unit completely useless.Full metal body & with thermal pad .Android & windows system both are working fine .But very costly ssd enclosure price.
