I bought this on a sale, and I have to say that it's a top notch hub with a fantastically long cable for home dock use, and that wonderful stored short cable for hard-to-forget travel. The USBC for charging Also Does Data. That's huge to me, since most of these hubs only have a PD port that can't be used for data.My one complaint. I bought this for the new iPad Pro, which famously has no headphone jack anymore. No, it doesn't hurt my evaluation, but it nearly hit every use case for me.Of course you shop for features you need for connectivity. I can say if the feature list meets your needs, you’ll be very happy with the build quality and the thoughtful touches to make it travel very well. When I saw that Twelve South was releasing a new USB-C dock with the minimalist dongle solution, I had to jump on it immediate as I'm a big fan of their accessories. The hub arrived quickly and the setup is as simple as any other USB-C dongle as you would expect. The hub feels solid thanks to its aluminum shell and what I really love (and underrated) is the 3m long USB-C cable with the angled end to sit nearly flush with your laptop or tablet. This is another underrated feature as the angled designed reduces overall cable clutter and tucks in nicely either behind or under your laptop if you're using their BookArc dock. The inclusion of a built-in USB-C cable inside the hub itself for travel purposes is a nice touch as it streamlines your travel kit by not having to carry the included 3m cable. The other features of the hub is pretty self explanatory and not anything new, as the USB-C passthrough and three USB A ports (all high speeds) and HDMI that powers a 4K monitor up to 30Hz (get a Thunderbolt 3 dock if you need higher refresh rates and higher resolution).Despite the amazing design and convenience of this hub, I wished that it had an AUX out audio as it would make your desk setup even cleaner when you don't have to plug in your audio on the right side of my MacBook Pro. A minor gripe in otherwise a perfect hub solution.Update: January 21, 2020My USB-C hub stopped working reliably a few months back but it finally got worst today. My HDMI port works (although it took a few tries to get it working), but I'm not getting any power and my USB external drive that I use for Time Machine doesn't connect. I filed a claim through TwelveSouth's warranty department and we'll see how it goes.Update: February 19, 2020I've purchased another new 13" MacBook Pro with upgraded specs and I'm experiencing the same problem with this laptop as well, which rules out that the laptop could be an issues based on my conversation with Twelve South's customer service reps. I can confidently say that my StayGo USB-C hub's power passthrough is inconsistent and unreliable.Update: Feb. 28th, 2020Received a replacement unit from the people at Twelve South and I was told that going forward, the StayGo will come with a new firmware that should resolve some of the inconsistent I/O issues. So far, my replacement unit has been great and I think it's been fixed.Update: Mar. 26, 2020Since we've all been working from home, this dock has been working great and reliably with the latest firmware update that I've received from Twelve South. It works well with both my Dell work laptop and my 16" MacBook Pro. I may pick up a second one.Been using this for a couple months before posting a review. It does work to a certain extent, as the USB ports do ports kinda work. Have had no issues with the USB A ports so far but the USB-C DOES NOT work as a power passthrough.I have another spare hub (one of those generic silver ones) from another brand for 1/3 the price of this one that works the same way. Save yourself some money and don't fall for the sleek design of this product. The dock works well, even better than some two-letter name brand desktop USB C dock that refuses to connect via USB 3.0 when paired with a QHD monitor. All ports work, including the micro SD slot. The problem I have with it is that the short 4.5 inch cable had stopped working all of a sudden. The manufacturer will replace it for free, but you'll have to pay a shipping fee that costs more than a standard 3 ft. 10 Gbps USB C cable. At least the longer cable still works fine.I have only had this for about 24 hours but I can say without hesitation that this little guy is surpassing my expectations. I have a Surface Pro 7 and have been looking for an affordable dock that has power passthrough, acts as a USB hub, and can go USB-C to HDMI without costing me a few hundred bucks. This ticks every box.Form factor is even smaller than I expected, which is a plus since I am working with limited desk space at the moment, but it still has everything you need and feels surprisingly sturdy and dense (Surface Pen next to it for reference). The included 1m C-to-C cable with the 90° end is just.... muah! Makes the whole setup so much cleaner. Can't stand the Surface's top placement of the port but this mitigates it as much as is possible.I did purchase a 100w USB-C charger that I ran into it, as the device itself eats about 15w, then needs at least 65w for the Surface, and the extra bit in there is plenty for my external SSD and a few peripherals. Need to do some cable management still, but the form factor of this thing is awesome.I will update if I run into any issues or any burnouts, but first impressions have me excited about this.Definitely recommend! This product is great... except for the SD card slot. The SD card slot works half the time when you need to view photos. However, when you try to copy any data off the SD card it Ejects itself almost immediately when data transfer starts to happen.I really wanted to love this product.I have several USB-C hubs and they all have issues, be it fixed cables that are too short, a lack of ports or some other functionality that I really want. This was supposed to replace several hubs for me.The ethernet port is a great addition as a lot of thinner hubs and devices sacrifice the ethernet port for size. 3 USB A ports is nice, especially as 1 is a charging port. The ability for this to provide power pass-through is great, it can draw 100W from the charger, but needs 15W itself when doing pass-through, so your device will only get 85W. This isn't a show stopper as most laptops don't use the full capacity of their chargers. The hub itself feels solid, and is really nicely machined, it is a bit on the larger end of the scale when it comes to hubs, but the detachable cable means that you don't need to wory when it's in a bag, and the wealth of connections means that you can justify the size quite easily. The connections all snapped into place and felt solid. The icons etched on the hub are all clearly visible, so you know what port does what.My rating is based on the fact that the hub I received didn't charge my laptop. I tried using both the short travel cable, and the longer cable included, as well as a couple cables that I already owned that are rated at 100W PD, and I knew worked. I also tried using 3 different power supplies, a 45W (my laptop's charger), a 60W and a 100W.I am not going to waste my time getting a replacement, I will continue with what I already have, and maybe in the future go with a brand that I already know and trust.Very happy with this, good quality well built item. I mostly use this as a docking station, I have a desk set up with monitor, keyboard, mouse etc and switch between two different laptops for work plus my own Macbook Pro. It's hidden behind the desk and plugged into my Macbook power supply cable. The included 1m cable can then switch between laptops and charges them and connects them to everything without having to move anything else around. Also handy to take out and about with the hidden smaller cable inside to use as an adaptor for my Mac which obviously only has Thunderbolt ports on it. Very happy.I have had hit and miss results with USB C hubs and after watching a few reviews thought I would but this one. It’s expensive which is why I have removed a star but other than that so far is working well. It has a solid metal case that doesn’t move around too much and a neat extra connection cable hidden in the hub so you can use the included longer cable for pass through charging if you want ( you need an additional charger as this is not supplied with one and does not claim to have one). So far used with a MacBook Pro 2019 ie the last of the Intel MacBooks and it works very well. I will try it with an iPad Pro shortly and if I have any issues with that will update this review but so far impressed . Expensive but hopefully worth itBought for a 2020 Macbook Pro M1which as everyone knows is very light on ports. All ports on this hub work as intended, as you would hope, but 2 key things that might help others decide if this is for them:1. The hub gets really hot when using the power port on it to power the mac, so hot it actually hurts to touch (i dont have asbestos hands like my dad) and i just transferred 50gb of data from a tiny USB dongle to my mac and the dongle when i took it out was too hot to hold, so dont rest this on a bed for example (less airflow), or on the sofa next to you while tapping away on your app of choice...its that hot it would concern me using on anything other than a solid desk surface and certainly not resting on my lap. For context i am using the power supply that came with the macbook pro, nothing that has too much juice for the hub. There is a solution, which comes at a cost per my next point...2. It runs cooler when i use one of the 2 ports on the mac as the power port, so not using the hub for it, and freeing up the USB-C port on the hub for an SSD, however there is a cost to that if you are using a USB-C fast SSD (i use the Samsung T7 2TB). I tested data transfer speeds with 2 methods, using a 4.4gb file i copied the file from SSD connected directly to the mac (not hub) to the desktop and it took 6.6 seconds, the same file when connected via the hub (so i could use the power direct to the mac) took 15 seconds. So it does slow data transfer to less than half speed than a direct connection for this SSD. More expensive hubs have fast transfer speeds of course, but this isnt a deal breaker for me.So in short, a great bit of kit, just be careful of the heat, and maybe connect the power direct if using a mac. If you do need fast transfer speeds there are other more suitable hubs out there for you.I really like that the hub has both a long and short adapter so as to be travel and personal space friendly. I wish the USB ports had a bit more labelling and defining as to why specific ports are with a lightning icon or not. I'm looking forward to the long term use with this hub and I hope that I will get more use out of this with this MacBook as well as with my next one. Also because this a hub with a lot of ports, I wish a drawstring bag or some storage sleeve came with it since I'm in an environment which is dusty and I don't want to get it damaged or clogged with dust.
